After school he went to University at Exeter where he read Social Policy and Administration. After this he worked for a year as an assistant housefather in a home for deprived children. From there, he went to theological college at Cambridge to train for ministry. He then took on two curacies, one on the south side of Dudley and the other in the north of Manchester, both urban priority areas. This was followed by a move down to Hereford. . An appointment in the south of Hereford was followed by a rural appointment between Hereford and Ross on Wye, and a further appointment near Ludlow. The family moved over the border into Wales in 2007. He is at present vicar at Llangorse, an area of great beauty.
He has had a continuing interest in social responsibility issues through his ministry and was excited by being able to pick up the issues once again with his appointment of Assistant Social Responsibility Officer within the Swansea and Brecon Diocese. More recently he has become Archdeacon of Brecon and sits as Chair of the Board for Social Responsibility. He believes that the mission of the Church is not served by concentration on itself and self survival but by looking outwards and being involved in issues of community and justice.
