Ollie’s Climb to Kindness: A Young Fundraiser’s Big Adventure for Faith in Families

Meet Ollie Blake, a 7-year-old with a huge heart and a love for adventure!

When Ollie decided he wanted to help those in need, he and his family set out on a memorable journey up Pen y Fan, Wales’ highest peak. Not only did Ollie climb Pen y Fan, but he also hosted a cake sale at the summit, raising an impressive £1,180 for Faith in Families. Here’s a glimpse into Ollie’s inspiring journey and his visit to one of our Cwtches!

Ollie’s Inspiration

“I wanted to help other children,” Ollie says, inspired by discussions at school.
Ollie’s idea began with a wish to support less fortunate children. From an initial plan to “sell” money to raise funds, Ollie’s mission and ideas grew. He gathered his family, baked cakes, and chose to take on the hike up Pen y Fan to create awareness and raise donations.

The Big Day – Climbing Pen y Fan

A challenging climb with a sweet reward-
Ollie and his family began their ascent, facing steep trails and windy weather. The climb was tough, and Ollie felt the weight of the challenge at times, but his spirit and the support of his family pushed him to reach the top. The family’s mix of baked treats – from fairy cakes to classic Welsh cakes – made for a sweet success!

“When your legs were tired, what made you keep going?” asked Jo-Anne, our Volunteer Manager. Ollie simply answered, “Because I am strong!”

After the climb, Ollie visited our Teilo’s Community Cwtch, where he received a tour and learned more about how his contribution will help children and families in need. Ollie’s determination and kindness will enhance Faith in Families’ efforts, supporting our various projects across Swansea.
