The 4 million steps challenge set out as a personal mission, but over the past year it became something much bigger. Led by Tom Beynon, Director of Three Cliffs Bay Holiday Park, the challenge has now officially reached its finish line, and then some.
By the end of the year, Tom had walked an incredible 5,224,351 steps, averaging 14,315 steps every single day, while also raising £7,110 via GoFundMe for Faith in Families Swansea.

From the very first walk to the final steps, the challenge focused on one clear goal, supporting children and families across Swansea Bay who are facing poverty, crisis, and uncertainty. Along the way, it sparked conversations, brought people together, and showed what long-term commitment really looks like.
A key part of the challenge’s visibility came through the support of Celtic Subaru Swansea, who helped take the message beyond the footpaths and into the wider community. By branding one of their courtesy cars with the 4 Million Steps challenge and Faith in Families messaging, Celtic Subaru turned an everyday vehicle into a moving conversation starter across South Wales. It was a simple but powerful way to raise awareness, helping more people hear about the challenge and the support local families need, while showing how local businesses can play an active role in backing their community.
Walking Every Day, Whatever the Weather
Throughout the year, Tom built walking into everyday life. Early mornings, coastal routes across Gower, evening walks, and long days on his feet all added up. Some days meant thousands of steps before breakfast, while others stretched late into the evening.
However, it was the consistency that made the difference. The 4 million steps challenge wasn’t about one big moment, it was about showing up daily and keeping families in mind with every step.
Reflecting on the journey, Tom said:
“I wanted to do something that people could follow along with, something steady and real. Walking every day gave me time to think about why this mattered. Knowing the steps were helping local families kept me going when it got tough.”

Community Support at Every Milestone
As the steps added up, so did the support. Local businesses, guests at Three Cliffs Bay Holiday Park, and individuals across Swansea Bay backed the challenge through donations, sponsorship, and encouragement.
Several businesses supported milestone moments, while others helped amplify the message through conversations, social media, and word of mouth. This steady backing helped the challenge grow far beyond its original reach.
Importantly, the funds were raised through GoFundMe, making it easy for supporters near and far to get involved.
Taking the Message on the Road
Midway through the year, the challenge gained even more visibility when a courtesy car was branded to promote the campaign. The vehicle quickly became a moving reminder of the 4 million steps challenge, carrying the message across South Wales and sparking conversations wherever it went.

For Faith in Families, this kind of awareness matters. It helps more people understand the pressures families are under, and why year-round support is needed.
Siany Martin, Fundraising Manager at Faith in Families, said:
“Tom didn’t just commit to the walking, he committed to keeping families visible all year. The steps, the fundraising, the car, it all helped start conversations that really matter. Raising £7,110 is a huge achievement, but the awareness created along the way is just as important.”
What £7,110 Means for Local Families
The funds raised through the 4 million steps challenge will directly support Faith in Families’ work across Swansea Bay. This includes practical help for families in crisis, emotional support for parents and children, and safe, welcoming community spaces.
Because the challenge ran across a full year, it reflected the reality families face. Need doesn’t stop after one season, and support can’t either.
A Year Worth Celebrating
Completing 4 million steps takes commitment. Exceeding it by over a million steps takes real determination. Doing it publicly, consistently, and for a cause takes something more.
Looking back, Tom summed it up simply:
“This was never about doing it alone. Every donation, every message, every conversation helped push the challenge forward. I’m proud of what we achieved together and I’ll be fundraising again this year too.”
