Faith in Families is recognising and celebrating Mr Julian Lovell, a long-serving Faith in Families trustee, as he steps down from his role after giving years of steady support, wisdom and care to the charity.
Julian has been part of the Faith in Families story through some important chapters. A retired teacher, he brought with him not only professional experience, but also calm judgement, fairness and a deep belief in people.
Trustees often work quietly in the background. However, their decisions, guidance and support help shape the strength of a charity. Julian has done exactly that.
His contribution has helped Faith in Families grow, stay well governed and continue supporting children, families and people through poverty, crisis, trauma and isolation.
A Faith in Families Trustee Who Helped Build Strong Foundations
Since the creation of the Personnel Sub-Committee, Julian has served as its Chair. In this role, he has supported the charity through some of the most important areas of organisational life.
His knowledge of employment matters has been invaluable. This includes disciplinary processes, grievances, redundancy procedures and long-term sickness management.
These are not always easy subjects. However, Julian has helped Faith in Families approach them with care, clarity and fairness.
Good governance matters because people matter. Staff, volunteers, trustees and the people we support all benefit when decisions are thoughtful, balanced and well managed.
Julian has helped bring that balance. He has offered guidance when it was needed, asked careful questions, and supported the charity to make decisions with both heart and responsibility.
That kind of leadership does not always happen in the spotlight. But it makes a lasting difference.
Supporting a Major Chapter in Brecon
Julian also played an important role during the building phase of Faith in Families’ first purpose-built family centre at St John’s in Brecon.
This was a major moment in the charity’s journey. It needed focus, careful planning and practical oversight.
During the project, Julian helped keep a close eye on budgets, timescales and the schedule of works. His steady approach helped the charity stay focused during a busy and important time.
Buildings matter because of what happens inside them. St John’s became a place where children and families could find support, connection and care.
So, Julian’s support during that phase was not just about bricks, budgets and schedules. It was about helping create a safe space where families could be welcomed and supported.
That is something to be proud of.
A Quiet But Lasting Impact
Julian’s time as a trustee has been marked by commitment, care and a strong sense of shared purpose.
Reflecting on the charity’s journey, Julian once said:
“The progress we have made collectively, from stopping the whole thing running into the sand to where we are today, is because of people like Cherrie and so many others who have joined us and given so much. So, thank you.”
It is a line that says a lot about Julian.
Even when reflecting on years of progress, he pointed to the collective effort of others. That generosity of spirit has been a real part of his contribution to Faith in Families.
He has seen the charity through change, challenge and growth. Along the way, he has helped strengthen the foundations that allow the charity to keep moving forward.

Julian has been one of those people.
